What this covers
This policy covers this website only. It does not cover the ropeshift software, which you run yourself.
The site has no forms, so it collects nothing that you type.
Who is responsible
For privacy questions and requests, write to [email protected].
What is collected without your consent
Vercel hosts this site. When your browser asks for a page, Vercel receives the request. Its privacy notice names the IP address as information about traffic to the websites it hosts, and its documentation lists the request method, the path, the time, the status code, the host, the user agent, and the region for its runtime logs.
This site's own code stores nothing on your device except your analytics choice, and it sets cookies only if you accept analytics. It loads its fonts from this site, not from Google, and it makes no request to Google until you accept.
What is collected if you accept analytics
A banner asks before anything loads. If you choose Accept analytics, this site sends the following to Google Analytics, and nothing else:
- Page views: the address and title of the page, the page you came from, and whether your browser prefers a dark or light theme and reduced motion.
- That you accepted analytics.
- How far down a page you scroll, reported at 25, 50, 75, 90, and 100 percent.
- Which parts of the home page you see, by name, such as the problem or the four parts.
- Link clicks. For a link to the ropeshift repository, which link it was and whether you used the left or middle mouse button. For another link to a different site, its address without anything after the path, and the part of the page it was in. For a link within this site, where it points.
- Copying. That you copied text, in which part of the page, and how many characters. The copied text itself is never read or sent.
- A summary when you leave or hide the page: how many seconds it was visible, the furthest you scrolled, how many parts of the home page you saw, and the deepest one.
No typed text, no copied text, and no names or email addresses are captured, and there is no session replay or mouse tracking. Google signals and ad personalization are turned off. Google also receives the request your browser makes, including your IP address, and the cookies in the cookie policy are set.
Who receives it
- Google, for analytics, if you accept. See the Google privacy policy.
- Vercel, for hosting. See the Vercel privacy notice.
Both companies may process data outside your country, and Vercel's notice names the United States.
Why, and on what basis
Analytics is for understanding how the site is used, and it rests on your consent. Hosting logs are for running and securing the site, which is a legitimate interest.
How long it is kept
- Google Analytics event data: 2 months. The Google cookies last up to 2 years, and some browsers shorten that.
- Hosting logs: set by Vercel. Its documentation gives runtime logs one hour of retention on the Hobby plan.
- Your analytics choice: until you clear this site's data in your browser.
Your rights
You can ask for access to your data, ask for it to be deleted, and object to its processing, using the contact details above. You can withdraw consent at any time with the Change analytics choice button in the footer. Withdrawing deletes the Google cookies and stops analytics from loading.
You can also complain to a data protection authority.
